Atalanta President Antonio Percassi concedes the club must try to sell Giacomo Bonaventura this summer.
The attacking midfielder was one of the shining lights of La Dea’s impressive Serie A campaign last season, prompting speculation of a move to Fiorentina.
While he remains in Bergamo for the time being, the head of the club today said the 24-year-old will have to be sold in order to raise funds.
“Unfortunately we are poor!” Percassi admitted to Tuttoatalanta.it. “In order to balance the books we are forced to sell one of our best players.
“We are thinking about staying up and I don’t want to hear talk about the Europa League.
“If we manage to sell one of these pawns in the transfer window we could also assess making another signing to perfect the balance of the squad.”
