“Do I believe in a sporting miracle? We are always concentrated and I won’t rule anything out for these final two games of the season,” said Nicola in his Press conference.

“I won’t accept giving up, because such a negative idea makes you lose sight of your work. If there’s talk of a miracle, then it means there is still a chance.”

Paulinho and Leandro Greco are suspended, while Innocent Emeghara, Ibrahima Mbaye and Andrea Luci are sidelined.

“This was a remarkable experience for us. Within 10 games we realised this was a world away from Serie B. The fact the club decided to do without me and my staff for three months allowed us to analyse our work in a critical way.

“This team believed from day one that it could be competitive and stay in Serie A, but we must also consider the circumstances, as 18 members of the squad were in their debut top flight seasons.

“We picked up 22 points against the other relegation-threatened teams, but the problem is we weren’t remotely competitive with the larger clubs. You can’t base a season on just 10 matches.”

Livorno are at a crossroads, as relegation seems almost certain and President Aldo Spinelli is in negotiations to sell the club to Stefano Bandecchi.

“At the end of the season we’ll sit down with the new owners and try to find what is best for all of us,” added Nicola, who has another year on his contract.
