Sergio Ramos has claimed that he can’t wait to play Italy on Wednesday, in what he believes will be an ‘exciting’ clash.

La Roja host the Azzurri at Atletico Madrid’s Vicente Calderon stadium later this week, and the defender has admitted that games between the two are always good.

“Matches with the Azzurri are always exciting duels,” he told reporters. “There’s always an interest in these clashes.

“There’s a long history of games between Spain and Italy, and we hope to add to it on Wednesday.

“For me, our best ever game was against them – when we won Euro 2012 [beating Cesare Prandelli’s men 4-0 in the final].”

The Real Madrid centre-back then commented on new international teammate Diego Costa.

“He deserves to be called up for this match. For me, it’s great that he can be with us.

“He’s really going to help our team going forward. We’re international teammates now, that’s all the counts.”
