Palermo remain bottom of the table, but Alberto Malesani insists today’s 0-0 with Genoa “was a step forward.”

The Rosanero scraped a goalless home draw with a fellow relegation battler and extended their winless streak to 12 rounds.

“We were a little better in the second half. Fabrizio Miccoli and Josip Ilicic still need to recover their form, as they are the ones who can save us this season,” said the Coach.

“I liked the way Palermo played and this performance was a step forward. Perhaps we didn’t have such huge scoring opportunities and we need to improve in front of goal, but that will happen when those two are 100 per cent.

“We need to relax, as once we start winning again this point will seem very good.”

The Stadio Barbera crowd has lost patience and jeered at the final whistle, particularly when the players stood under the Curva to salute them.

“I think the jeers are more of regret for the whole season,” mused Malesani. “I can see the team improving, we are closer to a victory and let’s not forget we were down to 10 men for some of the second half.”
