Lazio’s Stefano Mauri has applauded Daniele De Rossi after the Roma man apologised for striking him in the derby.
The midfielder was sent-off in the closing stages of the first half after he clashed with his former Italian international teammate in the build up to a Giallorossi set-piece.
De Rossi, who was subsequently omitted from the Italy squad as a result, went into the Lazio changing rooms after the game to make peace.
“De Rossi is a great champion who made an error,” Mauri stated. “He immediately said sorry – honour to him.”
Roma took the lead at a drenched Stadio Olimpico, but it was the Biancocelesti who again ended the game celebrating.
“It was beautiful,” the playmaker added. “A great Lazio took home another derby. I’m happy that I scored, but especially for how we played and that we gave the fans an immense joy.”
