Ciro Ferrara is confident his newly-promoted Sampdoria “can cause even more problems” for Milan on Sunday, though Maxi Lopez remains a doubt.
“Facing the Rossoneri at San Siro straight away is not necessarily a negative thing. Usually the top teams take a while to get into gear,” said the former Italy Under-21 Coach.
“I don’t know what atmosphere Milan will find from their own fans, but if they have pressure on them then we can cause even more problems. I hope they are not 100 per cent, but that Sampdoria are.”
The Blucerchiati caused an upset at the Nou Camp earlier this week when winning the Gamper Trophy 1-0 against Barcelona, marking the 20th anniversary of their European Cup Final.
“I want to see solidity, a tight team, few spaces given to our opponents and a great spirit of sacrifice. Basically, everything you saw against Barcelona, but to be fair there were similar elements on show in the Coppa Italia with Juve Stabia despite the defeat,” continued Ferrara.
“Our more experienced players must do better to take some pressure off the debutants. Maxi Lopez had a back problem during the Gamper Trophy and we’ll only know tomorrow if he can play.”
