Francesco Totti has handed Roma an injury scare this pre-season as he is forced to visit a specialist over his ankle injury.

Totti will reportedly consult with Professor Pierpaolo Mariani for tests today on his left ankle. Mariani is the surgeon who originally operated on the joint in 2006 so that the player could return in time to play for Italy at that summer’s World Cup.

The No 10 has reportedly been complaining of discomfort in the ankle during pre-season and has now left the team’s training retreat in Irdning to visit Mariani for tests.

Totti is expected to undergo an MRI on the injury, which is said to have flared up in recent days, before returning to his teammates this evening ahead of the results.
