Why Allegri included Chiesa in Juventus Champions League list despite season-ending injury

Despite a season-ending injury, Federico Chiesa has been included in the Juventus Champions League list as clubs can register a maximum of three new players for the knock-out phase.

The Old Lady was quite busy in the January transfer window, signing the likes of Dusan Vlahovic, Denis Zakaria and Federico Gatti.

The latter will remain on loan at Frosinone until the end of the campaign, but both Vlahovic and Zakaria are expected to play a key role for the Serie A giants in the second part of the campaign.

Juventus Champions League squad adds Vlahovic and Zakaria, ignores Kaio Jorge

Both of them have been included in Juventus’ Champions League squad list, replacing Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur, who joined Tottenham Hotspur in January.

Luca Pellegrini was also included in the list replacing new Rangers signing Aaron Ramsey.

The Italy full-back had been left out of the Juventus squad for the Champions League group stage but has got decent game time under his belt in the first part of the campaign playing nine Serie A games so far.

Therefore, Chiesa is still part of the Champions League list even if he won’t return to action before next season, while Kaio Jorge was once again left out of the squad.

Juventus will face Villarreal in the Round of 16, with the first leg in Spain on February 22.
