Who was the best Serie A player at the World Cup?

Four Serie A players became World Champions with Argentina but Lorenzo Bettoni picks Morocco’ Sofyan Amrabat as the best representative of Italy’s top flight in Qatar.

The big dream came true for Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes (Juventus), Paulo Dybala (Roma) and Lautaro Martinez (Inter) who lifted the World Cup after an epic Final against France on Sunday. El Fideo had been struggling with injuries for club and country but was instrumental to Argentina’s win against Les Blues with his third goal in three consecutive Finals for the Seleccion.

Milan‘s Theo Hernandez and Olivier Giroud returned home empty-handed despite a brilliant tournament. With four goals in six games, the striker became the best goal-scorer in his country, overtaking Thierry Henry with 53 goals.

Theo helped France reach the Final with one goal and two assists in six games, cementing his place as one of the best left-backs in the World.

Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot also picked up from where he left off with his club and managed one goal and one assist in six matches. Rafael Leao was never a starter in Portugal’s five games, but used his time wisely, by scoring two goals, his first ones for his national team.

Sofyan Amrabat made history with Morocco, who became the first African team to end the World Cup in the top four. No goals or assists, but the Fiorentina man was perhaps the best defensive midfielder in Qatar. Even if he didn’t lift the cup nor finish with a medal, to me, he was the best representative of Serie A in Qatar, followed by Theo, Giroud, Di Maria, Rabiot and Leao.
