Former Juventus winger Massimo Mauro says ‘VAR was introduced to affect the Bianconeri and prevent them from winning more titles.’
Juventus saw a late Arek Milik winner disallowed after a VAR check in their 2-2 draw against Salernitana on Sunday.
Leonardo Bonucci was considered involved in active play, but VAR hadn’t seen Antonio Candreva on the bottom left. The Italian winger played Bonucci onside, but the image was not seen by VAR as confirmed by AIA on Monday.
“VAR was introduced to affect Juventus and prevent them from winning more titles,” former Bianconeri winger Massimo Mauro told Sportmediaset.
“Eventually, they won four successive Scudettos [since it was introduced] so everyone understood they were the best.
“I mean, VAR was introduced hoping that Juventus would no longer win.”
Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci said on Monday that the Bianconeri had been ‘robbed’ but urged his teammates to turn their anger into motivation ahead of their Champions League fixture against Benfica at the Allianz Stadium.
Arek Milik and Juan Cuadrado also showed their frustration on social media on Monday.
The Bianconeri have won two of their opening six Serie A games and have collected 10 points so far. They are now four points behind table leaders Milan, Napoli and Atalanta.
Tomorrow, they host Benfica at the Allianz Stadium in the second match of Champions League Group H.
