Tomori called up by England | Southgate: ‘I was very impressed’

England CT Gareth Southgate has included Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori in the squad for October’s World Cup Qualifiers. ‘I was very impressed’.

Tomori has played once for England previously, when he was at Chelsea, but the defender joined Milan on loan last January and then completed a permanent move this summer.

He made his debut for England against Kosovo in the qualifiers for EURO 2020, but was not included in the squad for the Finals.

Tomori is now back in the squad and Southgate reveals why re recalled the former Blues defender.

“I was very impressed,” he said, according to MilanNews. “I thought he finished well last season.

“We were following him last season and he is playing well this season. He is in a club that should win every week, I think he did well against Liverpool and Juventus.”

The 23-year-old has established himself as a vital played in the Rossoneri defence, and has appeared in all Serie A games this season and the two Champions League defeats to Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.

The defender, born in Calgary, Canada, scored his first and only Milan goal against Juventus last season and has played 30 competitive games since joining the Diavolo in the fashion capital.
