Serie A verdicts: Milan win title, Cagliari relegated, Salernitana safe

Milan have won the Serie A title, while Venezia, Genoa and Cagliari have been relegated and Fiorentina returned to Europe.

It was a thrilling final matchday in Italy, with Milan winning their first Scudetto in 11 years. Stefano Pioli’s men lifted the Tricolore in Reggio Emilia following a 3-0 win over Sassuolo. Inter beat Sampdoria with the same result in Milan, but it wasn’t enough to catch their city rivals at the top of the table.

The top-four race had been decided already, with Napoli and Juventus joining the Milanese sides in Europe’s elite competition for 2022-23.

Lazio and Roma have qualified for the Europa League, so José Mourinho won’t need to win the Conference League to gain access to the competition. Fiorentina beat Juventus at the Artemio Franchi 2-0 yesterday, returning to Europe for the first time in five years. Vincenzo Italiano’s side will play in the Conference League next season.

Cagliari have joined Venezia and Genoa in Serie B. The Sardinians were held to a 0-0 draw by Venezia tonight and didn’t make the most of Salernitana‘s 4-0 loss at home against Udinese.
