Fabio Capello is set to finalise a deal to become the new national boss of Russia – but the country’s Minister for Sport would prefer Jose Mourinho.
“I think Capello has all the necessary requirements to Coach the Russian national team, but personally I would prefer Mourinho,” Vitaly Mutko noted.
“Today or tomorrow we should iron out all the details for Capello, so a contract could be signed before the start of the Russian Premier League on Friday.”
Former Inter boss Mourinho is tied into a contract at Real Madrid, while the Italian, 66, was available after leaving the England job in February.
Russia are looking for a new tactician following the departure of Dick Advocaat after the outfit flopped at Euro 2012.
Capello, formerly of Milan, Roma, Juventus and Real Madrid, is expected to sign a two-year deal worth €6m annually.
