Pjanic avoids ‘punch’ ban

Miralem Pjanic escaped punishment for an apparent punch on Mario Rui because “the images are not conclusive.”

The Roma midfielder seemed to rabbit punch the Empoli defender in the ribs during an off the ball incident.

It was caught only on one camera angle from quite a distance and the footage started from the end of the incident.

Today the Disciplinary Commission confirmed it would not be taking action because “the images are not conclusive.”

It’s a sigh of relief for Roma, as they could’ve lost Pjanic for three matches.

Meanwhile, 15 players have been suspended for Serie A Week 22, including all three Sassuolo strikers and new Milan signing Mattia Destro.

Sitting out a one-game ban are Nicolas Burdisso (Genoa), Isaac Donkor (Inter), Kostas Manolas and Alessandro Florenzi (Roma), Nicola Sansone, Simone Zaza and Domenico Berardi (Sassuolo), Riccardo Saponara and Daniele Croce (Empoli), Sinisa Andelkovic (Palermo), Mattia Destro (Milan), Antonio Di Natale (Udinese), Alessandro Gazzi (Torino), Stephan Lichtsteiner (Juventus) and Matias Silvestre (Sampdoria).
