Mourinho wants to keep El Shaarawy at Roma

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants Roma to retain Stephan El Shaarawy despite interest from both Atalanta and Monza.

The 29-year-old Italian winger’s current contract expires with the Giallorossi next year, making this summer the last real chance to generate some funds with a sale. Monza and Atalanta both registered their interest in El Shaarawy this summer but a departure from Roma doesn’t look likely now.

As reported by Il Messaggero, Mourinho still trusts in El Shaarawy and wants to keep him in his Roma squad for this season, even if Andrea Belotti arrives on a free transfer.

The former Milan winger only made a cameo appearance in the season opener against Salernitana, but he’ll likely play a regular role under the Portuguese coach in the Italian capital this campaign.

Last season, El Shaarawy scored seven goals and provided one assist in 36 appearances across all competitions, mostly being a rotation option.
