Mourinho wants to keep El Shaarawy at Roma

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants Roma to retain Stephan El Shaarawy despite interest from both Atalanta and Monza.

The 29-year-old Italian winger’s current contract expires with the Giallorossi next year, making this summer the last real chance to generate some funds with a sale. Monza and Atalanta both registered their interest in El Shaarawy this summer but a departure from Roma doesn’t look likely now.

As reported by Il Messaggero, Mourinho still trusts in El Shaarawy and wants to keep him in his Roma squad for this season, even if Andrea Belotti arrives on a free transfer.

The former Milan winger only made a cameo appearance in the season opener against Salernitana, but he’ll likely play a regular role under the Portuguese coach in the Italian capital this campaign.

Last season, El Shaarawy scored seven goals and provided one assist in 36 appearances across all competitions, mostly being a rotation option.

  1. Selling Salah to Liverpool for £36.5 million meant Italian football missed out in the Champions league, single handedly stopped Roma within a year to reaching the final, that would have been good revenue for Roma even had they lost the final. Stopped Napoli on the same points in the group and they were out, but Liverpool won the final that year. Stopped Milan last year at San Siro and Salah scored because the keeper pushed the ball into his direction to score. Then they played Inter at San Siro and beat them again, and the amount of revenue that Italian football would have gained exceeds the 36 million he was sold for and from nowhere Liverpool makes 3 finals in 3 years and Salah helped that along the way. Italian football always pay the prices, Conti leaving for Chelsea cost Italy the world cup in 2018 because he had to come to England. This will carry on if people do not wake up, either its planned or its a fate Italian football has to be smarter at avoiding, your enemies will gain everything, and you will lose everything and it will repeat itself over and over, some of it is even tactical.
