Marotta: ‘Juventus remain Scudetto favourites’

Inter director Beppe Marotta insists Juventus ‘must always be considered among the favourites’ for the Scudetto, while Milan, Roma and Napoli can also challenge for the title.

The Nerazzurri won the Serie A title in 2020-21 and finished second last season, runners-up to their city rivals Milan.

Going into the new campaign, there have been reinforcements for all the big clubs, including Juventus, Roma and Lazio.

“Obviously we want to win the Scudetto and dreams often turn to reality, but we need courage to make it happen,” Marotta told DAZN.

“It is only right to be ambitious when setting objectives in sport.”

However, the former Juve director still puts the pressure on Inter’s historic rivals more than his own squad.

“Juventus are a team who must always be considered among the favourites, in all competition. They will be this year too, so we must raise our game to challenge them.

“Without doubt, Juventus are working on the transfer market with a lot of quality, but we are also certain that our squad is competitive. We welcome the duel with Juventus, but also don’t forget Milan, Roma and Napoli.”

Inter brought back Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea on loan, just a year after his €113m transfer to Stamford Bridge.

“He has changed, is much more of a leader than before and much more motivated,” added Marotta.

“I am happy that Lukaku can be part of this squad. Henrikh Mkhitaryan has won so much in his career, an opportunity emerged and we took it.”
