Inzaghi: ‘Inter insufficient and too frenetic’ against Fiorentina

Simone Inzaghi admits Inter’s performance in the stalemate with Fiorentina was ‘insufficient’ and the lack of results is starting to affect the team psychologically.

The Nerazzurri had their third draw in the last four Serie A games, a Denzel Dumfries header cancelling out the Lucas Torreira opener.

More importantly, Inter have won only one of their last seven matches in the league and risk falling further adrift of the leaders ahead of Milan’s trip to Cagliari this evening.

Serie A | Inter 1-1 Fiorentina: Dumfries can only rescue a point

“The first half was insufficient, because a team like ours must do better. We improved after the break, created more chances and could’ve scored another,” Inzaghi told DAZN.

“It’s just an off moment, seven points in seven games is evidently weighing on us psychologically. Fiorentina did better in the first half, we did better in the second, I am not satisfied because we made everyone expect more of us.

“Naturally, the team feels more responsibility now compared to the way people treated us at the start of the season. We had a few perfect months, then a dip, but the lads must stay calm and just keep working.

“We are creating lots of chances, just not finishing them off the way we used to.”

It is the second match in a row with Inter going behind and having to fight their way back for a 1-1 draw.

“We had not done well in the first half against Torino, so I certainly expected improvements on that. I am the first to be responsible, as I am the coach. The lads tried against a quality opponent, but we should’ve done better in certain moments.”

Is it a coincidence that Inter failed to win any of their three Serie A games without injured Marcelo Brozovic this season?

“We know these moments aren’t easy, but we’ve been in football for a long time and we know you just have to ride them out.

“It’s too easy to blame missing players. The fact is we did better in the second half, so it wasn’t just that. I would be more worried if we didn’t create the chances at all, whereas in recent games we did create. Perhaps the lack of results is making the team a little more frenetic and not as clear-headed in their choices.”

The next Serie A match after the break for international duty will be against Juventus in a head-to-head for third place.

“We know the kind of game we’re going into, we already faced them in Serie A and the Supercoppa, we will be prepared.”
