Chelsea set new meeting in bid to sign De Ligt from Juventus

Chelsea will reportedly have a new conference call with Juventus and Matthijs de Ligt to discuss the defender’s transfer to Stamford Bridge.

De Ligt is unwilling to sign a contract extension with Juventus and club CEO Maurizio Arrivabene confirmed last week that the Dutch centre-back wants to leave.

Chelsea have already opened talks with the Serie A giants, but their opening bid has been rejected. The Premier League giants had offered €40m plus Timo Werner or Christian Pulisic.

According to transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà, a new conference call involving the three parties will take place soon.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Sunday that Chelsea have already made an improved bid for Juventus, putting €80m on the table. A new offer from the Blues has not been confirmed by any other source in Italy or England.

De Ligt has a €120m release clause included in his contract, but Juventus may start negotiations for a fee around €90-100m.
