‘Approved by Gerrard’ Aston Villa pounce on Juventus midfielder Bentancur

According to reports in Italy, Aston Villa scouted Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur during yesterday’s match against Milan.

Goal.com’s Romeo Agresti claims Aston Villa scouted the former Boca man during yesterday’s Serie A clash against the Rossoneri. Bentancur played 89 minutes at San Siro with Adrien Rabiot replacing him for the final minutes of the match.

New Villa coach Steven Gerrard has identified the 24-year-old as an ‘ideal reinforcement’ in the middle of the park after the signing of Coutinho from Barcelona.

However, according to the report, the Premier League side has not yet placed an official bid, while Juventus owe Boca Juniors 35% of any future sale.

The Uruguay international has played 26 games with the Bianconeri this term, delivering three assists. He has scored three goals in 181 appearances with the Bianconeri.

He joined the Old Lady in a €15m deal from Boca Juniors in 2017. Juventus managed to obtain an option to secure his services when they sent Carlos Tevez back to the Bombonera on a free transfer.
