Al-Ettifaq challenge Milan for Morata

Milan face strong competition for Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, with reports he has received an offer worth €40m from Al-Ettifaq.

According to Relevo in Spain, the Rossoneri have been in talks with the former Juventus and Chelsea striker, as well as Atletico Madrid representatives.

They simply would not be able to compete with the proposal on the table from Bahrain side Al-Ettifaq, who are seemingly prepared to offer €40m net plus €10m signing-on fee for Morata.

Al-Ettifaq just appointed Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as their new coach.

There is also a great deal of confusion over his transfer status, as Sky Sport Italia maintain there is a release clause in his contract allowing him to leave for just €10m, whereas Spanish reports put it at €25m.

Morata turns 31 in October and has also been linked with a possible return to Serie A for Roma, who need a replacement while Tammy Abraham recovers from anterior cruciate ligament surgery.
