Toni: Ribery best I’ve played with

Verona forward Luca Toni has warned Roma that Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery is the best player he’s ever played with.

Toni has played for both the Giallorossi and Bavarians, winning a Bundesliga title with the Germans.

Toni insists that Roma are not as bad as they showed in that defeat, but praised Franck Ribery as the best player he’s ever lined up alongside.

“It will be a tough, beautiful game,” Toni has told Roma’s match programme.

“The Giallorossi are a strong team, despite the defeat to Napoli and I don’t think the result in the first game is a true reflection of the gap between the two teams.

“Ribery is the best player I’ve ever played with.”

Toni also reflected on his three years in Bavaria, and though the big striker describes his time in Germany as ‘fantastic’, the World Cup-winner thinks the German game could do with more passion.

“[My time in Germany was] fantastic. I played in a strong team, one which I was good enough to force my way into.

“In my first year I scored 39 goals and won pretty much everything, it felt fantastic.

“The Germans are efficient, punctual, precise… even if they should learn from us how to celebrate! They’re too cold, they should enjoy it a little.”

The 37-year-old also spent a season with Juventus, but the Verona No 9 refuses to be drawn on the title race.

“I’ve always said it will go right down to the wire between Roma and Juventus.”
