Tiago Pinto: ‘Lukaku had Inter history, now writing his story with Roma’

Roma director Tiago Pinto is more concerned about the timing of the trip to Inter rather than the fiery atmosphere set up for Romelu Lukaku.

It kicks off at San Siro at 17.00 GMT.

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from this game and Napoli-Milan on the LIVEBLOG.

“The great thing about football is that all games are worth three points,” Tiago Pinto told DAZN.

“Inter were in the Champions League Final last season, are doing well this term, have a great coach, great players, but we are prepared to come here and get the best result possible.”

This is not a game like any other for Lukaku, who had two different spells at Inter and is considered a ‘traitor’ for negotiating with Juventus at the same time as they were trying to purchase him outright from Chelsea.

Although there was a ban from local authorities, Inter ultras still handed out over 30,000 whistles, some of which were confiscated, others got through to the stands.

“It is the same as any other match. Lukaku has not had much time to prepare for these things, as we played on Thursday and he scored. As someone from Portugal, I cannot understand why this game can’t be played on Monday night when we played Thursday.

“Lukaku had a history with Inter, now he is building his story with Roma, this is football.”

In an attempt to concentrate on the match and not “fuel this atmosphere that has been created” around the return of Lukaku, Inter players, coach and directors will not speak to the media before kick-off.

“Inter have the most talented, experienced directors in Italy, so I have great respect for the club and certainly won’t criticise their strategy. They do what they think is best and we do what we think is best,” concluded Tiago Pinto.
