Szczesny ignores Juventus critics

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny insists he will be able to ignore criticism and regain his focus both at club and international level after some costly errors.

The Poland international saw his two howlers gift Udinese a 2-2 draw in the opening Serie A game of the season, then he was beaten in the 1-0 home defeat to Empoli.

“One of my strengths is that I have always been able to ignore what people say about my performances, positive or negative,” said Szczesny during a press conference.

“More often than not, these two extremes are exaggerated and the reality is somewhere in-between.”

Some Juve fans and critics have called for Szczesny to step aside and be replaced by Mattia Perin in Turin.

“It is important to always look forward and concentrate on the next games. We mustn’t pay attention to the outside world.”

The 31-year-old joined Juve in 2017 for €14m plus bonuses and his current contract runs to June 2024.
