Sticchi Damiani: ‘Algorithm makes no sense’

Lecce President Saverio Sticchi Damiani hits out at the proposed algorithm that Serie A wants to use in the event of another stop.

With the Giallorossi third to bottom, on par with Genoa at 17th and only three points behind 14th-placed Udinese in a tight relegation battle.

The Salentini resume the campaign against Milan at the Via del Mare on June 22, before an away game against Juventus four days later.

Patron Sticchi Damiani claims such a tight race for safety can’t be assigned by an algorithm.

“There is still no algorithm because the issue will be addressed next week,” he told Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno.

“The Federal Council will decide, after evaluating the proposal that the Assembly of Lega Serie A will put forward.

“The algorithm that I have read shouldn’t be legal, they make no sense, perhaps leaked on purpose. In case of a stop, how can you hypothesise three relegations?

“The number of teams was not decided by anyone.”
