Shaka Hislop ‘conscious’ after collapsing on air ahead of Real Madrid-Milan

Dan Thomas says former goalkeeper Shaka Hislop is ‘conscious’ after collapsing live on air during the build-up of Real Madrid-Milan on Sunday.

The 54-year-old, a former keeper for Reading, Newcastle United, West Ham and Trinidad and Tobago national team collapsed while covering Real Madrid-Milan live for ESPN on Sunday.

It happened before kick-off in Pasadena while Hislop was previewing the game with journalist Dan Thomas. The ex-goalkeeper immediately received medical attention.

Dan Thomas gave an update on Hislop’s condition at half time.

“As it stands it’s good news. He’s conscious, he’s talking, I think he’s a little embarrassed about it,” the journalist said.

“He’s apologised profusely. Not a man who likes people to make a fuss of him. Obviously, it’s far too early to make any sort of diagnosis, but the important thing is that Shaka is conscious.

“We spoke to his family, you imagine seeing that happen live. There can’t be many more things that can scare you. We spoke to his wife and things are looking ok.”

Milan were 2-0 up at the break but eventually lost 3-2 against Carlo Ancelotti’s side in Pasadena last night. Fikayo Tomori and Luka Romero got their names on the scoresheet for the Rossoneri, but Real Madrid hit back with a Federico Valverde brace and Vini Jr.’s goal, inspired by a spectacular Luka Modric assist.
