Prosecutor: El Shaarawy, Gatti and Casale not under investigation

The Turin public prosecutor has said the latest names mentioned by gossip columnist Fabrizio Corona – Stephan El Shaarawy, Federico Gatti and Nicolò Casale – are not under investigation for illegal betting.

The investigation was started in late July or early August by Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli coming forward to admit he suffered from gambling addiction, which had seen him plunge into debt.

That then spread to Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Zaniolo, who were promptly placed under formal investigation.

However, so far the other names mentioned in public by ‘King of the Paparazzi’ Corona have not been dragged into the investigation.

Speaking to Striscia La Notizia last night, Corona gave another three names, specifically Roma winger El Shaarawy, Juventus defender Gatti and Lazio centre-back Casale.

However, the Turin public prosecutor responded to Sky Sport Italia that these three were not currently under investigation.

The same has been said of another player named by Corona, Roma full-back Nicola Zalewski, who has denied ever placing bets.
