Pioli: ‘Only results matter’

Lazio Coach Stefano Pioli has defended his side’s recent form, but admits that the ‘only thing that matters is the result’.

The Biancocelesti had been on a three-match run without a win before beating Parma at the Ennio Tardini on Sunday and will look to build on the result when Atalanta visit the Stadio Olimpico tomorrow.

“In Italian football the only thing that matters is the result,” Pioli admitted in his Press conference ahead of the game.

“In Italian football the only thing that matters is the result,” Pioli admitted in his Press conference ahead of the game.

“I think the team has played well. We’re now recovering after two games where we lost [to Empoli and Juventus]. I see the desire to get back to winning ways.

“Every Sunday we have objective data on our results and performances in the form of the League table.

“At Parma, in every respect we did better than other teams have. I’m talking about performance in terms of managing the game for 95 minutes.

“The League table is finely balanced, except for the top two [Juventus and Roma] who have a few more points.

“Everyone has dropped points, we’re in that group [fighting for third] and we want to improve.

“We want to improve our position, because in just a few days a gap can open up, and we want to be on the right side of that gap.

“We want to be in the top five. We’re in the fight, we’ve just slowed down slightly on the path we’ve been running down since the start of the season.

“All the teams have experienced things like this, with good results and then setbacks. Tomorrow we can build on the win at Parma and remain in an important position.”
