Nedved: ‘It was time to rejuvenate Juventus’

Juventus Vice-President Pavel Nedved said ‘it was time to rejuvenate the squad’ at the Allianz Stadium. ‘We aim to be competitive in Italy and Europe’.

The Bianconeri brought back Massimiliano Allegri ahead of 2021-22, replacing Andrea Pirlo.

The rejuvenation process started a year before Pirlo’s arrival, with Maurizio Sarri at the helm and the club picked up their last Scudetto under the former Napoli coach.

Raiola: ‘Pogba to Juventus? It’s free to dream’

Nedved explained ‘it was time’ to make changes at Juventus and stressed the club are building for a competitive future with young stars like Federico Chiesa and Matthijs de Ligt arriving at Continassa in recent years.

“We won for many years, and it was time to rejuvenate the squad,” Nedved said at the press conference for the presentation of ‘All or Nothing – Juventus’.

“With the right mix of experienced players like [Gianluigi] Buffon, [Giorgio Chiellini] and [Leonardo] Bonucci, and young players like Chiesa and De Ligt.

“We have tried to build the present and the future of the club, with the aim of being competitive in Italy and in Europe, to continue winning.”

But the Bianconeri are currently eighth in Serie A after a difficult start to the new campaign, sitting 14 points behind leaders Milan and Napoli after 12 games.

In Europe, however, the Old Lady has picked up four wins in four games, including a 1-0 triumph against reigning champions Chelsea in Turin.
