Hidetoshi Nakata hopes Roma win the Scudetto and has advice for Milan midfielder Keisuke Honda.

The first Japanese player to truly make his mark in Serie A, ex-Perugia and Roma man Nakata spoke to Calciomercato.com.

“I know Roma are playing very well this season and as one of their former players I hope they can win the Scudetto.

“Did I see the controversy after the recent match? Yes, but there is always controversy between Roma and Juve, so it’s nothing new…”

A surprise top scorer for Milan so far this season is Honda, who struggled badly in his first six months of Serie A football but has scored four goals in six games and provided two assists.

“It wasn’t easy for him to adapt in his first year, but he’s already doing much better and I hope he can continue like this.

“As for Yuto Nagatomo, he’s been in Serie A for so long that we basically consider him Italian now and no longer Japanese!”

Another of Nakata’s former clubs, Perugia, are battling for promotion at the top of Serie B.

“I hope they can climb back into Serie A and I hope they invite me, as I’d certainly go there to celebrate.”
