Milan consider Zaniolo amongst potential Leao’s replacements

Nicolò Zaniolo is reportedly amongst Milan‘s transfer targets and is seen as a potential replacement for Rafael Leao, reports La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

Roma have put a €60m price tag on the 23-year-old, but his contract expires in 2024 and, should the Giallorossi not manage to strike a deal for his contract extension soon, they’d be forced to lower their demands in order not to lose him for free.

With talks over Rafa Leao’s contract extension seemingly stuck at a standstill and amid rumours linking the Portuguese with Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Milan don’t want to be caught unprepared in case the Portuguese leave. This is why they are monitoring several players that could replace Leao in a position deemed as a key to Stefano Pioli’s system.

The Rossoneri’s interest towards Zaniolo dates back to the last spring. Club directors believe his technical skills would make him a perfect addition to the squad with a view to building a young and successful team in the future.

Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio, Chelsea’s Hakim Zyech and Salzburg’s Noah Okafor are also being considered by the Rossoneri, but either their wages, age or price make a deal unlikely to happen.

Zaniolo has scored three goals and assisted two for Roma this term from 14 appearances across Serie A and Europa League.
