Milan can still qualify for Champions League Last 16

Liverpool have secured top spot in their Champions League group with two games to spare, also keeping Milan’s hopes alive, even if their chances are very slim.

The Rossoneri were held 1-1 at home by FC Porto this evening, giving them just one point from four matches.

However, they aren’t entirely out of the running yet for qualification into the Round of 16.

It will take something spectacular, but it wouldn’t be the first time, as Atalanta had one point after four games and still got through two years ago.

Liverpool have already guaranteed top spot in Group B with 12 points from four games, followed by FC Porto on five, Atletico Madrid with four and Milan on one.

The Rossoneri’s remaining fixtures are a trip to Atletico Madrid on November 24 and hosting a Liverpool side who will probably rest numerous players at San Siro on December 7.

Porto already have a superior head-to-head record with Milan, so if Sergio Conceicao’s men beat Liverpool, it’s all over for the Rossoneri.

Essentially, Milan need to win both remaining games, hope Porto only get one point from two matches, and then get a superior head-to-head record with Atletico Madrid by winning at the Wanda Metropolitano by at least a two-goal margin.

It’s difficult, and third place for Europa League qualification might be more within reach, but not impossible.
