Philippe Mexes has urged his Milan teammates to not be carried away by the wave of enthusiasm after the 4-0 win over Arsenal.

The Italian champions breezed past the Premiership outfit in the first leg of their Champions League tie last night.

Although delighted with the performance and the result, the French international centre-back is remaining calm.

“It all becomes a lot easier when all of the side work hard by chasing back and playing football like we did,” the Bosman arrival from Roma stated.

“A 4-0 win at home is pleasing, but we have to remain focused as that is necessary in order for us to achieve beautiful things.”

Mexes started the Stadio Meazza tie given that Alessandro Nesta wasn’t fit enough to be named in the starting XI alongside Thiago Silva.

“I’ll give my best in an effort to repay the faith that the club have put into me,” continued the former Auxerre stopper.

Milan signed Mexes while he was recovering from knee ligament damage.
