Manchester United continue chase for Juventus’ Rabiot – the latest

Manchester United’s Director of Football John Murtough has left now Turin after meeting with the mother and agent of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The Red Devils are keen to add the 27-year-old Frenchman to their midfield before the end of this summer’s transfer window, desperate to inject a little more life into Erik ten Haag’s team after their poor showing in the defeat to Brighton. Rabiot’s contract expires with Juventus next year and the club are happy to let him leave.

Tuttosport details how Manchester United are willing to pay around €18m for Rabiot, but they haven’t reached an agreement with the player yet regarding his salary. The Frenchman is reportedly asking for a salary of around €8-10m net per season, something the Premier League side aren’t willing to pay.

Murtough met with Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique yesterday in Turin to continue the negotiations in person, and terms were still not agreed. Things are seemingly moving forward positively, though.

Ten Hag is confident that some reinforcements will be added to his squad before the end of the transfer window, commenting on the market strategy in a press conference earlier today.

“I’m happy, I think we’re cooperating really well. I cannot tell about any individuals, I cannot talk about players under contract at other clubs.”
