Lazio close in on Milan defender Romagnoli

Lazio are reportedly close in on the signing of Alessio Romagnoli as a free agent from Milan.

The Italy centre back sees his current deal expire at the end of the season and according to Il Corriere dello Sport and Milannews’ Antonio Vitiello, the Biancocelesti offered him a €3.2m-a-year deal.

That’s less than what Romagnoli currently earns at San Siro, but Milan would not offer him the same money and asked their captain to take a pay cut to stay at the Stadio Meazza.

Vitiello reports that a meeting between Romagnoli’s representatives and Lazio has recently taken place and that the two parties are now negotiating over agent fees.

Mino Raiola is the representative of Romagnoli, but the Italian agent is still recovering after surgery undergone in January. According to the report, Romagnoli and Lazio are close to finalising an agreement so the player will likely move to the Stadio Olimpico at the end of the season.

Romagnoli joined Milan from Sampdoria in a €30m deal in 2015 and would become the fourth player to leave the club as a free agent in the last year. Gigio Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu left the club in Jule 2021, while and Franck Kessié has reportedly signed a contract with Barcelona ahead of a free move in the summer.
