Lazio are reportedly close in on the signing of Alessio Romagnoli as a free agent from Milan.

The Italy centre back sees his current deal expire at the end of the season and according to Il Corriere dello Sport and Milannews’ Antonio Vitiello, the Biancocelesti offered him a €3.2m-a-year deal.

That’s less than what Romagnoli currently earns at San Siro, but Milan would not offer him the same money and asked their captain to take a pay cut to stay at the Stadio Meazza.

Vitiello reports that a meeting between Romagnoli’s representatives and Lazio has recently taken place and that the two parties are now negotiating over agent fees.

Mino Raiola is the representative of Romagnoli, but the Italian agent is still recovering after surgery undergone in January. According to the report, Romagnoli and Lazio are close to finalising an agreement so the player will likely move to the Stadio Olimpico at the end of the season.

Romagnoli joined Milan from Sampdoria in a €30m deal in 2015 and would become the fourth player to leave the club as a free agent in the last year. Gigio Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu left the club in Jule 2021, while and Franck Kessié has reportedly signed a contract with Barcelona ahead of a free move in the summer.

  1. Has been an honourable captain over the past few years. However, the guy is just too slow and hasn’t really improved in the last six or so years. Thanks alessio, but time to move on.

  2. He’ll get to play for the club he has always supported and Lazio get a strong defender. He’s definitely not suited to Sarri’s football though, but still better than what they currently have.

If Milan sign Botman on half his wages, then everybody wins.

  3. It’s a pay cut either way then, but I’m happy to see a Raiola managed player leave even at a loss these days. Let lazio pay his commissions if they think he’s worth it.

I like the guy, but with Tomori – Kalulu playing as they are at the moment and Kjaer, despite his age, holding down a first choice spot until his injury, I can understand why Romagnoli wants more playing time and I can understand why Milan wants his salary to match his place in the pecking order.

Thank you for your service to the cause and best wishes for your time in the capital!

  4. I think if we didn’t have Kjaer, Tomori and Kalulu we would be worried but unfortunately he doesn’t have the qualities that this team needs to reach the heights we aspire to be at.
