Juventus have secured a Champions League spot, activating a clause to make Federico Chiesa’s move permanent.
The Italy international joined the Bianconeri on loan with an obligation to buy in October 2020.
“Juventus Football Club S.p.A. announces that an agreement with ACF Fiorentina for the temporary acquisition, until 30 June 2022, of the registration rights of the player Federico Chiesa has been finalised for a consideration of € 10 million, of which € 3 million for sporting season 2020/2021 and € 7 million for sporting season 2021/2022,” Juventus statement read.
“The agreement further entails:
- The obligation for Juventus to definitely acquire the player’s registrations rights, subject to the achievement of certain given sporting objectives by the end of the season 2021/2022;
- The right for Juventus to definitively acquire the player’s registration rights in case these given objectives are not achieved.
- In both cases, the agreed consideration for the definitive acquisition is € 40 million, payable in three years, which might be increased up to a maximum of € 10 million upon achievement of further performance objectives over the duration of the employment contract with the player.”
According to multiple reports in Italy, one of the conditions to make Chiesa’s move permanent in 2021-22 was to qualify for the Champions League, a target that the Old Lady achieved yesterday, with three games to spare.
The Bianconeri beat Venezia 2-1, while Roma collected a 0-0 draw against Bologna, going 10 points behind Max Allegri’s men with three games remaining. Juventus have already paid €10m for Chiesa’s loan and will pay a further €40m plus €10m add-ons to make his move permanent.
The 24-year-old has scored 18 goals in 61 games in Turin, but has been on the treatment table since January due to a severe knee injury. He will return to the pitch in 2022-23.
