Juventus CEO Arrivabene: ‘Everyone has to earn their place in the team’

Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene highlighted that players need to prove their worth if they want a new contract with the club.

The Bianconeri had a tough first-half of the season under coach Massimiliano Allegri and they now sit 5th in the Serie A table, six points behind 4th place Atalanta. The team risk missing out on a top four finish, meaning they wouldn’t be taking part in the Champions League next season.

Speaking in an interview with DAZN before Juventus’ match against Roma, Arrivabene first discussed the importance of tonight’s game.

“You don’t have to say that, it’s very important. Roma are a great team, with a great coach, but we didn’t come here to drop points.”

He touched on the importance of finishing in the top four this season.

“The plans are very clear, Champions League qualification is a must, like going as far as possible in the Champions League. I think it’s clear to everyone, we have to reach the objectives.”

The Juventus CEO commented on the squad and how it’s clearly under construction.

“It doesn’t take an engineer to say that the squad we have has 80% of players who are part of the national teams.

“It’s a squad that’s under construction, new players are being brought in, but we’re moving forward in order to win.”

Finally, Arrivabene discussed the progress of Paulo Dybala’s contract renewal and how players and staff need to prove their worth to the club.

“We said we’d sit down with the players again in February to take time to evaluate. Everyone has to earn their place in the team and has to prove that they’re worth what they decide, no ifs, ands or buts.

“Everyone has to prove their worth, managers, players and coaches. We’ll see in the next few games if they prove it. Let’s look ahead and try to achieve the goals we have set ourselves.”

Juventus have only won two of their last five league matches, drawing the other three. Losing against Roma tonight could have key consequences in the race for a top four finish.
