Highlights: Juventus beaten by Real Madrid in final match of US tour

Juventus fell to a 2-0 loss against Real Madrid in the final match of their US tour.

A Karim Benzema penalty and a second by Marco Asensio saw the Bianconeri comprehensively beaten the European champions.

The two sides met in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena – scene of the 1994 World Cup final where then Juve forward Roberto Baggio missed a penalty to condemn Italy to defeat against Brazil.

Injuries to goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny and midfielder Weston McKennie ruled them out as Juve started with Mattia Perin in goal while Danio, Leonardo Bonucci, Gleison Bremer and Alex Sandro made up the back four. In midfield it was Denis Zakaria, Manuel Locatelli and Nicolò Fagioli with the attacking trip of Ángel Di Maria, Dušan Vlahović and Moise Kean.

Madrid, meanwhile, went with Thibaut Courtois in goal, Dani Carvajal, Éder Militão, David Alaba and Ferland Mendy across the back. Luka Modrić, Casemiro and Toni Kroos made up the midfield with Federico Valverde, Karim Benzema and Vinícius Júnior in attack – the same starting XI which beat Liverpool in the Champions League final two months ago.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side had the ball in the back of the net early on but Valverde’s effort was ruled offside.

Bonucci then came close to giving Juve the lead on 12 minutes as he hit the bar with a free-kick – the Bianconeri’s best effort of the match – before Madrid did open the scoring seven minutes later from the spot.

Danilo, having initial miscontrolled a pass from Vlahović, brought down Vinícius Jnr. and Benzema converted from 12 yards.

At half-time, Di Maria was replaced by Juan Cuadrado while former Roma defender Antonio Rüdiger came on for Militão .

Di Maria’s absence made Juve even less dangerous as Madrid continued to dominate the match with Perin keeping the Bianconeri in it with saves from Carvajal, Mendy and Benzema.

Ancelotti then made three changes but Los Blancos’ dominance continues and it was 2-0 on 69 minutes as Asensio tapped in from close range after some neat team build-up play.

Next up for Juve is a clash against Atlético Madrid in Tel Aviv, Israel on Aug. 7.
