Italiano: ‘Ferocious Fiorentina with Juventus’

Vincenzo Italiano wants to see Fiorentina play with ‘ferocity’ against old rivals Juventus and hopes the fans can ‘inspire’ the players towards victory.

It is due to kick off at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday at 19.45 GMT.

That remains slightly in doubt due to devastating floods in the region of Tuscany that left seven dead and one person still missing.

More rain is expected this evening and that means the conditions could worsen tomorrow, leading to potentially a re-evaluation of the fixture.

“All of us at the club were profoundly struck by what is happening in Tuscany. Our first thoughts go to the families who lost their loved ones, those who are still without water and electricity. We send our embrace to those who are suffering right now,” Italiano told the official Fiorentina channel.

In the build-up to this big match against their arch-rivals Juventus, Fiorentina held an open training session with supporters in the stands.

The Viola suffered surprise defeats to Empoli and Lazio, in the latter conceding a last-gasp Ciro Immobile penalty.

“We know how important this game is and thank the fans who gave us an extra push, we want to make them happy. Clearly, we need to react to the two defeats and get back on track in Serie A.”

Juventus put themselves in the running for the Scudetto with a 1-0 win away to 10-man Milan, then squeezed past Hellas Verona with another 1-0 result.

“We are up against a team that is capable of winning games against anyone and causing all sorts of problems. We must prepare well and I hope the stadium atmosphere can inspire us, so that at the final whistle we can all celebrate together,” added Italiano.

“Juve have quality, physicality and run at you from all angles. However, more than worry about the dangers they pose, we should focus on our own strengths, starting with ferocity and quality. That is how you win games.”
