Inter boss Claudio Ranieri was delighted with victory in Genoa last night. “It was important to leave Marassi with a win.”

The Nerazzurri beat the Rossoblu 1-0 in their rearranged Week 11 tie which was originally postponed because of floods in the area.

Yuto Nagatomo scored the only goal in the second half to see the San Siro giants join Palermo in sixth place.

“The victory gives us some consistency for the table and in our play,” the tactician noted. “The entire team played well.

“We knew it wouldn't be an easy match. We knew that Genoa would defend, but I'm happy with how we managed the game.

“The only flaw in our performance was the last 10 minutes. We should have slowed down the play and not suffered as much from their counter-attacks.

“But I'm very pleased that the team didn’t concede. This means that everyone, even the forwards, are working a lot.”

The 1-0 at the Stadio Ferraris was Inter’s fourth win from their last five games, but it still leaves them 10 points adrift of leaders Juventus and Udinese.

Ranieri also refused to be drawn into a war of words with Genoa boss Alberto Malesani who complained about a number of refereeing decisions after the tie.

“I should answer in the same tone, but it would only create controversy and ruin a match with words between two Coaches who I wouldn't exactly call friends, although I regard Malesani.

“Obviously he's bitter, so let's let him vent. I'll talk about the game and say that it was lovely, against a team that closed down well and didn't have their first shot until the 80th minute."

The San Siro giants are next in action at the weekend when they face a rejuvenated Cesena. They still have to face Parma, Milan and Lazio before reaching the halfway stage of the campaign.
