Infantino: ‘Name the Stadio Olimpico after Paolo Rossi’

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has urged the Italian authorities to rename the Stadio Olimpico in Rome after Paolo Rossi.

“I hope the stadium in Rome will be named after him, as he deserves it for all he achieved,” said Infantino in a press conference today following the online meeting with federations from around the world.

Rossi was the top scorer at the 1982 World Cup, leading Italy to glory in the Final against West Germany.

Pablito Rossi scored 20 goals in 48 senior caps for the Azzurri.

He died after a long illness in December 2020.

In his club career, he represented the likes of Juventus, Como, Vicenza, Perugia, Milan and Hellas Verona until retirement in 1987.
