Ibra: ‘More than just a name’

Zlatan Ibrahimovic says Cristiano Ronaldo playing in Serie A is “important”, he is proud of Dejan Kulusevski but also that “the challenge is with myself” at Milan.

The second half of Ibrahimovic’s presentation as a Milan player saw him asked about perennial rival Ronaldo and upcoming Swedish talent Kulusevski, who recently joined Juve.

“It’s nice that Cristiano is in Italy, it’s important for Serie A,” continued the returning Rossonero.

“As for Kulusevski at Juventus, it’s good that Sweden’s players represent great teams, too few of them do.

“When you live in America it’s difficult to watch the European Championship. I’ve heard positive things about Kulusevski and I’m happy for him.

“He’ll know what he has to do to get to the top.”

The veteran has signed a contract until the end of the season with the option of an extra year, but he made it clear he would only continue on one condition.

“If I’ve given something in six months then I’ll stay on. I don’t want to stay here just because I’m Ibrahimovic.

“What I’ve done in the past doesn’t count. I have to prove so much to myself.

“The challenge is with myself, I want to make a difference and I must have the right desire and mentality.

“If I’m on the field not to bring results, it’s useless and better to put in someone else.

“Style and play change, but I know what to do. I still have my shoulders…

“I talked to the coach yesterday for a few minutes. It was a busy day, but then I trained. Those moments will come.”
