Former owner Moratti believes Inter can go all the way in the Champions League

Former Inter owner Massimo Moratti believes his beloved Nerazzurri can go all the way in the Champions League if they finish the job against Benfica in the second leg of their quarter-final tie.

Simone Inzaghi’s out-of-form side gave themselves a big advantage heading into next week’s second leg at San Siro after Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku ensured Inter left Lisbon with a two-goal lead.

Inter drew widespread praise for their performance at the Estadio da Luz, despite having gone six games without a win across all competitions in the build-up to the last eight clash in Europe.

If the Nerazzurri get past the Portuguese outfit, they will be met by either Milan or Napoli in the semi-final, which would guarantee an Italian team in the Champions League final for the first time since Juventus lost out to Real Madrid in Cardiff in 2017.

Speaking to 90min.com, Inter’s former owner noted: “This [game against Benfica] was a very important obstacle to overcome, the job hasn’t been completely finished but a good 50% has been done if not even more.

Moratti continued: “And I must say that this puts it in a position to get through the round and to meet a team that it knows given that it’s one of the two Italians. After that, only the final remains”
