In a remarkable twist, Fiorentina have asked Milan for Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta in the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old arrived a year ago from Flamengo for €38m plus up to €7m in performance-related bonuses.
However, he has barely featured lately and does not fit into Stefano Pioli’s 4-4-2 system.
Paqueta has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and even Roma, but Fiorentina have suddenly emerged as genuine contenders.

According to Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedulla, the Viola are making a real push to sign Paqueta before the transfer deadline on Friday at 19.00 GMT.
Fiorentina are certainly having a massive revamp of their squad, today alone negotiating to bring in Alfred Duncan from Sassuolo, Christian Kouame and Domenico Criscito from Genoa.
