Ferrara urges Juventus to sell De Ligt if Chelsea make right offer

Juventus legend Ciro Ferrara argues they should let Matthijs de Ligt go if he doesn’t have the ‘right motivation’ amid Chelsea interest.

The Dutch international is under contract until June 2024, but the negotiations on an extension have not been progressing well.

There is a release clause in the current deal that is worth €125m from this summer, rising to €140m from June 2023.

Reports emerged today on Sky Sport Italia that De Ligt could leave if the right offer comes in from Chelsea, although the bid would have to be at least close to the €125m release clause for it to be considered.

“We have to understand if De Ligt has the right motivation,” Bianconeri legend Ferrara told Tutti Convocati.

“He is an important figure in the defence, but if he wants to leave, then Juve will not hold him against his will.”

De Ligt turns 23 in August and was purchased from Ajax in the summer of 2019 for €85.5m.

Along with Chelsea, he has also been linked with Manchester United, but the fact they have failed to qualify for the Champions League makes that move improbable for the Dutch international.
