Juventus legend Ciro Ferrara argues they should let Matthijs de Ligt go if he doesn’t have the ‘right motivation’ amid Chelsea interest.

The Dutch international is under contract until June 2024, but the negotiations on an extension have not been progressing well.

There is a release clause in the current deal that is worth €125m from this summer, rising to €140m from June 2023.

Reports emerged today on Sky Sport Italia that De Ligt could leave if the right offer comes in from Chelsea, although the bid would have to be at least close to the €125m release clause for it to be considered.

“We have to understand if De Ligt has the right motivation,” Bianconeri legend Ferrara told Tutti Convocati.

“He is an important figure in the defence, but if he wants to leave, then Juve will not hold him against his will.”

De Ligt turns 23 in August and was purchased from Ajax in the summer of 2019 for €85.5m.

Along with Chelsea, he has also been linked with Manchester United, but the fact they have failed to qualify for the Champions League makes that move improbable for the Dutch international.

  1. Juventus will make the same mistake as they did many years ago with Roberto Carlos Sandro. Chelski offered them £60M but PhD Max said “CALMAAA”!!!

  2. Yes Allegri wants to win this year, so will buy two 37 year-old center-backs, a 33 year midfielder and a 34 year old winger. Just right for his get a-1-0-lead-then-defend style of snoozeball.

  3. Agree with ferrara – however i would accept at 110m euros, maybe we can push for the 125 euros as they have new owners who need to splash out,

But lets talk about the replacement:
Aymeric Laporte / Jules Koundé / Pau Torres / Edmond Tapsoba / Gabriel(arsenal) / bremer

  4. MOHAMMED are you smoking something. If we cannot even get Di Maria, do you think our management are going to spend a dime on young players. Have you seen our coach and his philosophy. Laporte and Kounde are no free and goes against our policy. For years we have a basic structure. We only buy free players and give them the world, and yet we ask nothing in return.
