Cuadrado shields Allegri: ‘Juventus must remain united’

Juan Cuadrado took the blame off coach Max Allegri, saying the Juventus players must do more after their 2-0 defeat to Maccabi Haifa. ‘We can only emerge from this situation if we are united.’

The Bianconeri were humiliated 2-0 in Israel by an Omer Atzili brace in the first half and were rescued from a third goal by the crossbar.

They barely created genuine scoring opportunities in the second half and are now bottom of the Champions League group on just three points from four games.

“Unfortunately, these things happen in football. We must try to turn the page as soon as possible, get our heads on Serie A now, as we can only emerge from this situation if we are united,” Cuadrado told Sky Sport Italia.

“There is the risk of elimination, but we can get out of this situation if we are united. As long as there’s a chance, we must believe to the end, keep working, give 100 per cent and hope things change.”

This latest result, following on from Saturday’s 2-0 Serie A defeat to Milan, has increased the calls for Max Allegri to be fired.

“The coach is doing everything to get us back on track, we are all a team and it’s more the fault of those of us on the field. We must give more, starting from the more experienced ones.

“We need to have faith in ourselves as a team and a family. We have emerged from many difficult situations before and I think this is an opportunity to do it again.”
