Costa: ‘Milan deserve respect’

Juventus winger Douglas Costa says the current Milan side “deserve great respect” and ranks his goal against Lokomotiv Moscow as “my most beautiful”.

Milan were the last team to win the Scudetto before Juve’s dominant run of eight in a row and have made their worst start to a season since three points for a win were introduced.

Despite that, Costa is refusing to underestimate the Rossoneri, who will be the Old Lady’s opponents on Sunday.

Milan were the last team to win the Scudetto before Juve’s dominant run of eight in a row and have made their worst start to a season since three points for a win were introduced.

Despite that, Costa is refusing to underestimate the Rossoneri, who will be the Old Lady’s opponents on Sunday.

“It’s clear that the Milan of the past were a phenomenal team who won everything, but I believe Milan are still a good team and deserve great respect,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Paqueta’s an important player. I know him well from the national side.

“He has excellent quality, yet football in Europe is different to that in Brazil in terms of aggression and I believe he will show his value in time."

The Brazilian was then asked about his injury-time solo finish to beat Lokomotiv midweek.

“I was in the No 10 position and I was finding it difficult to find space.

“So I talked to [Paulo] Dybala and [Leo] Bonucci and then said to myself that I should move out to the left a little.

“When I ran past the two defenders, I saw that I had space in front of the goal and it was intelligent of [Gonzalo] Higuain to give me the ball with one touch.

“It’s the most beautiful goal of my career. I’m not used to taking off my shirt after a goal, but it was a moment of liberation for me.”
