CL: How the Serie A teams can advance

Juventus, Roma and Napoli can all still make the Champions League Last 16, but nothing is guaranteed for Serie A’s representatives.

Last night saw the Partenopei keep their hopes alive with a 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk, but their fate remains outside of their control.

Whatever happens, Napoli have to beat Feyenoord in matchday six, but even that wouldn’t guarantee a place in the Last 16.

Maurizio Sarri’s side need Manchester City to beat Shakhtar, which would see the Italian side through on the head-to-head record.

City are looking to become the first side to win all six group games, although Paris Saint-Germain will beat them to that record if they beat Bayern Munich on December 5, with the Citizens in Ukraine the following day.

Tonight’s 0-0 draw with Juventus means Barcelona have already won Group D, and the Bianconeri will join them in the Last 16 if they beat Olympiakos in Greece.

If the Blaugrana beat Sporting in matchday six Allegri’s side will advance, while even a loss would be enough to advance on the head-to-head record as long as the Portuguese don’t win at Camp Nou.

In Roma’s group, Chelsea are already guaranteed a place in the Last 16, but the Giallorossi can still top the group or be eliminated.

Eusebio Di Francesco’s men welcome Qarabag to the Stadio Olimpico on December 5, and will advance to the next round if they win.

The Lupi could top the group, but they need Atletico Madrid to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Spanish side have to win in England though, as the only way they can go through is if they win and Roma don’t.
